Hostage to Fate. The Air Adventures of Laddie Hindley in War and Peace

Hostage to Fate. The Air Adventures of Laddie Hindley in War and Peace
Author: Hindley, Laddie and Hurst, Doug
Laddie Hindley's air adventures cover 40 years in Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea, flying fighters, transports and finally helicopters. He accumulated 18000 flying hours, half of which were on the Jet Ranger. Most of his flying was demanding and exposed Laddie to hazardous conditions in mountainous terrain, tropical jungles and police activities in the PNG highlands. His experiences, as told to Doug Hurst, make compelling reading. Covers wartime service on Kittyhawks with No 80 Squadron RAAF during the assault on Japanese forces at Tadji in 1944, helicopter operations in Malaysia and South Vietnam (with 9 Squadron) and post war work operating commercial helicopters in perilous terrain at the Ok Tedi mine in PNG from the late 1960s through to 1980.
